Forever Family Friday week 44 -Akiemah

Happy Friday everyone. Goodness…We have talked about the staggering number of 425,000+ children in the foster care world for weeks and weeks now. Here’s an even more staggering but not surprising nugget of information, this past year there has been a 30% decrease in children serviced because of the pandemic. 30%! When things opened back up, there was an over 450 percent increase! Agencies are working very hard to keep up. It’s been a difficult task to add to an already difficult situation. With school back in session most places, the counselors and support people are working overtime. It saddens me to think what all these children have been through, and those then there’s an entire group that no one has even had eyeballs on in months. The only remedy that makes sense is for every child to have a forever family. For every child to be adopted. That’s the goal. Let’s keep on keeping on! Let’s not allow Akiemah to be part of any further statistics! Never underestimate that your love can change someone’s life!

Akiemah is from Indiana and is 11 years old. She has a big smile that lights up a room, Akiemah is a great kid with a funny sense of humor. She likes to stay active, preferring to ride her bike, rollerblade or play basketball and likes football as well. The more active she can be, the better! Music is very important to Akiemah – if she could, she’d have the radio on all day…and probably be singing along! When she grows up saving animals or being a police officer are on her list!

As with most children, consistency will be important when it comes to new routines. Parents will have to be persistent about building up a level of trust with Akiemah, in a family that is calm, understanding, and creates structure where she can thrive. “Belonging” to Akiemah is defined as being comfortable. Can you help Akiemah feel comfortable and have a sense of belonging? For more information please contact Denise Donaldson, Adoption Consultant [email protected]v

Forever Family Friday week 43 – Zackari

The tragedies that this world has seen and experienced as of late seems almost overwhelming. Every day we learn about more deaths, destruction, devastation and illness. We try to stay positive. We desperately search for the light in a dark world. We pray for peace and relief from suffering. We try to make a difference and be strong. I have one way you CAN make a difference and be the reason someone believes in the goodness of God. Start your Foster Care journey! Remember Dr. King said, “The time is always right to do what is right.” Call the number on this post. Get your home study done. We may not be able to change the world, but we can change the world for one person. We can do what is right. Click the link in bio for resources on how to get started. We need you. We need people who are willing to open their hearts and their homes. Do something. One foot in front of the next. If we ALL do our part, we CAN change the world for the 424,000 children in the foster care system. Please let me introduce you to Zackari. The time could not be more perfect to help him find his forever family.

Zackari is 14 and from Mississippi. He describes himself as a “fun” kid. He is not sure yet what he wants to be when he grows up, but until then he will stay busy playing sports. Basketball, football, and soccer are his favorites. One day, Zackari would like to make it to Disney World. This would be even better if it were with his forever family. I’ll tell you what…if you or someone you know adopts Zackari ….A trip to Disney is on me. He would like to have a mom and a dad. He says a pet dog would be great too! Please contact [email protected] Photo: Greg Campbell Photography

Did you know many states offer financial assistance? In the state of MS, funds are available for education, transportation and technology as examples. These are wonderful benefits for youth in the foster care system. So when people say it is so expensive, please know there is help readily available. Can you please help connect Zackari with his forever family? We need you!

Forever Family Friday week 42 – Jasmine

A new backpack. Freshly sharpened pencils. New crayons. New school shoes. Each year it was a huge deal to go back to school shopping in our home. The kids would bring home their supply list after the first day and away we would go. We carefully picked the right colors and correct binders and found fun gadgets to use in their lockers (you know I had to decorate the lockers 😉). It was so exciting. As a sidebar guys…I also used this time to talk to the kids about being a friend to the lonely and being kind to all. Teaching your kids to encourage others and stand up for those being bullied is so important. But for children in foster care they don’t get these back to school experiences or parents that are guiding them to be difference makers -it’s just another day. Hey! Here is a statistic that is alarming…the average child in foster care changes homes 3 times, and with each move, they lose up to 6 months of progress academically! That is 18 months! That’s just nuts. They did not ask for these moves! Many of you say you can’t adopt but would love to help. Here’s an opportunity. If your community, school or church is having a school supply drive, please give and give generously! And if you can’t find one, we can! Our Foundation can take your contribution and ensure it goes to school supplies for foster children (link in bio). We want not only the kids we post but ALL kids to have the same opportunities. Education is a game changer. We need to ensure that these kids are adequately equipped to start school. Please meet Jasmine. Let’s help her find her family. One that will love her, support her, and help her start her school year off on the right foot!

Jasmine is a strong-willed and loving young lady! She is artistic and creative, recently joining her school’s ukulele club. She is a fan of reading and likes playing outside or taking her roller skates out for a spin. Jasmine also likes watching the TV show “Master Chef” and recreating the recipes. Jasmine would like her own room so that she has somewhere quiet to go if she gets overstimulated. And Jasmine loves animals! For more info: [email protected]

Forever Family Friday week 41 – Kamora and Sirryon

There is one thing that I have realized about all these kids on our Forever Family Friday journey…they all just want to be loved. Is that too much to ask? They want safety and security and a happily ever after. Yes dealing with kids, all kids, whether they are foster or biological or adopted or whatever, it can be exhausting and challenging and even at times difficult, but the good out weighs the bad! Trust me! It is an honor and a privilege for me to get to talk about these kids each week and to pray for them by name. My hope is that each child we post is happy and healthy and finds a safe and loving family. How great would that be? We need you. These kids are all of our responsibilities. It takes a village. I know we all think they are cute and we feel sad for them but we need more than emotions – we need action. I need you to share these kids with your family and friends and coworkers. Help us make a difference in the lives of Kamora and Sirryon.

Please meet Kamora, 12 and Sirryon, 7 who live in California. The sisters are similar in their dynamic personalities and are definitely close at heart! They are natural born leaders that tend to draw in everyone they meet! Kamora is friendly and sociable and loves cheerleading. She hopes to get into gymnastics and loves being creative with art. Sirryon is an engaging and vibrant little girl with a wit that will make you smile. She is very sweet and her laughter is contagious. She likes arts and crafts and like her sister, is interested in gymnastics. One day she would like to work at “The Happiest Place on Earth.” That is music to my ears! Disney would be lucky to have her! The sisters have an enthusiasm about life and each other. Oh imagine the light and energy they could add to your family!!
