Forever Family Friday week 23 – Aayalliah

As I was looking over so many beautiful faces this week of foster kids to post and thinking of what to say to you that might give you reason to pause and stop…just for a minute. I wondered if there was a correlation between Easter and foster care that I could share with you. There are 420,000 plus kids in the foster care system because of no fault of their own. They are not able to experience life abundantly. Basic things are hard for them. Milestones are missed. Experiences are not shared. But think about it just for a minute…Easter is a comeback story! It reminds us that God can offer new life when all seems hopeless. There is hope for these foster kids as well. My prayer is that each child has the opportunity to hear about Jesus and the life He has for them…for them to know there is hope. Their stories are not over! We need you to be a part of their journey. We need you to talk about them and share their names with others. That is MY Easter prayer and wish!

Please Meet Aayalliah! She is 14 and from Mississippi. She describes herself as pretty, smart, funny, and talkative. She enjoys riding her bike, coloring and playing with dogs. She would like to be a veterinarian and learn more about dogs. When she grows up she would like to join the Army because she is strong and thinks the structure and discipline of the Army would be good for her. Germany in the wintertime is her dream destination because she likes snow and cold weather. Aayalliah said family means to her “a home you stay in for good…..they don’t take things from you…where there is joy and peace.” She wants to be part of a family with a “positive vibe” who all enjoy being with one another.

I know many of you would fit the description of “positive vibe” with all our interactions here on instagram! Will you help be part of the solution? Do you know someone who can help Aayalliah rewrite her story? Please call 601-359-4133 or email [email protected]. Photography by: Charlie Lum

Angelo

Please meet Angelo. He needs love. He needs and open heart and an open home. He needs someone to champion for him and seek out the best for him. Angelo is sweet, lovable and 9 years old from Florida. He is content with quite time, playing on his tablet or reading a book, especially in a cozy corner in his room. He loves to play outside and has an interest in cars. Although Angelo is not able to communicate verbally, he does understand everything around him and is able to communicate in other ways. He is happy to express himself by pointing to specific things he wants and he can let his dislikes be known as well.

The perfect family for Angelo is one who is patient, nurturing and willing to take the necessary steps to learn how to meet his needs and advocate for him and care for him while celebrating his accomplishments along the way. Can that be you? Could your life be the one that gets to be blessed with his sweet self? For more information please contact @HeartGalleryTPA 813-314-2021 Kismis Ink Photography

Forever Family Friday week 21 – Tayiana

UPDATE! Tay has been matched with her forever family!

We are already half way through March, I am trying to wrap my head around that! I feel like I was just vacuuming the confetti off the floor from New Year’s Eve and now I’m pulling out my Easter bunnies. It is a reminder that time stops for no one. That is why when you are a teenager in foster care you feel a deeper sense of urgency to find your forever family, you feel the minimal security you do have slipping away. A mild panic hits many of them. Will they ever be a part of a family? Will they have Christmases and birthdays with people who care about them the rest of their lives? In the majority of states the day you turn 18 you are forced to leave your foster home. You go to sleep one night in a bed in the safety of a foster family, and the next day you’re expected to figure it out on your own. Some literally get kicked to the curb. Which results in this next statistic – 1 in 5 foster kids who age out of the system are homeless. Please continue to journey with us to stop this craziness!

Please meet Tayiana! She is 14 years old and from Georgia. She describes a family as loving, caring and understanding. Family is support. “Tay” enjoys watching TV and she enjoys cooking! She can make pasta for dinner and french fries are her favorite! Something that interests her is watching people do their makeup. One day she would like to be a makeup artist and describes it like a canvas on your face. Or a hairstylist! At school, where she earns good grades and gets along well with the other kids, Tayiana enjoys learning about math and bonding with her friends.

Tayiana is a determined person and can be focused at times. When she wants something she goes for it! I like that! With her forever family she would like to go on summer vacations, travel and spend quality family time. We all deserve our place to belong… our home… our family. We all deserve people support us and love and care for us. Can you be that family for Tayiana? For more information please email Rebecca at [email protected].

Gavan

Please meet Gavan! He is 15 years old and from Mississippi. This sports-loving young man is looking for a forever family. Children should NOT be looking for their family. Their family should be looking for THEM! Gavan describes himself as active and nice. He says he does well in math and enjoys playing games and playing sports. One day he would like to be a professional football player. He would like a family who treats him well and has children around his age. He thinks life with a family would help him deal more positively with life’s challenges. Don’t we all need people closest to us to deal with life’s challenges? Kasumy

Please meet Kasumy. She is 12 years old and lives in Arizona. Kasumy describes herself as quiet and happy, and as someone who is open to trying new things. She expresses her creativity by beading, painting and doing crafts. She appreciates being included in activities and will gladly help with gardening or cooking and loves to bake banana bread. Her favorite subjects are P.E., art and computer class and she would be thrilled if her new family could teach her Spanish.

Parenting that is straight-forward with strong rules and redirection will be best for Kasumy. She thrives when she receives attention, so her team is looking for a family with no other children or a family with children who are much older than her. Can you be that family for her? Can you teach her Spanish? Can you help her love to read? If you are interested please contact Heather at [email protected]

Forever Family Friday week 18 – Jarkies and Marquel

We are not put on this earth for ourselves but are placed here for each other! That statement rings especially true when we think about our siblings. Over 50% of children in foster care have one or more siblings in the system as well. That means statistically 9 of the 18 children we have posted to date has a brother or sister we do not even know about. Super sad! Typically a sibling group is first placed in temporary care. After a few days of being unsettled they are moved again to a long-term placement location. It’s a lot for me to process …much less the kids trying to process it! Sometimes foster parents find it too taxing to take several children so they elect to pick just one. And so the journey begins of siblings being ripped apart. More times than not these siblings have been each other’s security blanket and support system. The only little piece of familiarity and comfort that they know abruptly comes to an end. The siblings are now sad and confused, as to why they can’t be together. And we can’t understand why they are upset. I totally understand! I understand why they lash out and display anything and everything from depression to aggressive behavior. This is a common scenario and one that I would love to not see happen here with these siblings. Please allow me to introduce you to two pretty amazing kids… Jarkies and Marquel! Two sweet brothers ages 10 and 7 from California. Please please help us keep them together!

Jarkies is happy and outgoing. He has a good relationship with peers and is well liked at school. He loves art and can spend a good amount of time just drawing what he envisions in his mind. He also enjoys writing, building with Legos and playing video games. In school he is doing well and his favorite subject is math. Marquel is playful and energetic. He loves to have fun and enjoys spending time with his friends. Swimming, riding his bike and playing video games are favorites. He also likes coloring, drawing and building with Legos. Like his brother, he likes to keep his room tidy. These guys deserve to not only have a family but they deserve to have each other!

Forever Family Friday week 16 – Jonny

February ❤️ The month of love. The month that one usually does something spectacular for someone special in their life. The month one is inundated with hearts and warm fuzzy moments with all the feels. It’s the month we emphasize the importance relationships and caring. It’s the month of giving cards, chocolates, cuddly stuffed animals and flowers that all say how much one cares. If you have someone special to share those Valentine moments with then you are one of the lucky ones. If you have a parent that secretly puts a note in your school lunch that says “Know you are loved today and EVERY day! Happy Valentine’s!” If you have a best friend that gave you a Valentine’s card that said “Thankful for friends like you!” you are one of the lucky ones. Most of you reading this are thinking “What is she talking about?” I’m talking about the norm for many kids in foster care is to NOT experience the warm fuzzy moments on Valentine’s or any other day. Children in foster care we would HOPE have someone they can share love and receive love with. But my guess is that is not the norm. That’s why we need you. We need people to open their hearts and their homes to kids that are deserving and just want to be loved. Can YOU be the special person in one of these kids’ lives? Can YOU be the giver of love TO THEM?

Jonny would make a great Valentine! He is 11 and lives in Tennessee. He loves anything sports, especially basketball and football. He says his teams are like family (I’ve heard that a time or two before! 😊). He is a math and science guy and enjoys spending time with others and is described as sociable and courteous. Having a family means they don’t let you run off by yourself. That you have fun together and eat dinner together. That they talk to you. I’m here to say that is not a long list. Can we please give that to Jonny? Jami Thornsberry Photography For more info: 954.319.0434 [email protected] or TNkidsbelong.org

Forever Family Friday week 15 – Lakira

#SuperBowl is always a BIG deal in the Tuohy household. This will be the first game we have missed in years but you guys know Mega-Phone Man was not getting in that crowd. He still has 10 days til his last vaccine. The memories of the games we’ve attended and the excitement of getting ready to watch has me giddy! In this family we pick our team and cheer loudly! Let me tell you, every play is followed by a reaction! I think you guys know that about me! “Run the dang ball” will be said more than once! But, as I sit here and plan for the game I can not get the statistic out of my head posted by @heartgallerytpa (Super Bowl is in Tampa this year for anyone who may not know). I posted the image on my story but repeating – the # of foster children JUST IN FLORIDA, could fill 421 NFL teams. As you watch the game on Sunday I want to ask you to take one moment, in between the commercials, the appetizers, and the fun, to look at how many players make up just 2 football teams. Then multiple that by 419 teams and you have a visual of how many children are in foster care RIGHT NOW in just Florida. That visual should leave a lump in your throat. Hopefully it will encourage you to look back at some of the #ForeverFamilyFriday posts these past few months and repost them on your social media, or share them with those around you. We have to keep talking about the children in foster care! They need us! They need us to get in the game! They need us to cheer loudly for them. Lakira needs us.

Please let me introduce Lakira! She is 16 and lives in Nebraska, however like all of our children we post, she can be adopted into any state! Lakira is a fun loving girl that gets along with almost everyone she meets. She is a rule follower and does very well in school, but her favorite part is interacting with her friends. Lakira is a typical girly-girl who likes to shop and do her hair and nails. Lakira is described as having a care-free spirit. She enjoys drawing, going to the zoo, trying new food and journaling. Lakira looks forward to having a family that will support her as she learns and grows. For more info: Jacey 402-227-1949, [email protected]

Forever Family Friday week 14 – Saharra and Jayden

Here are a few not so fun facts for you this Friday. There are currently about 424,000 foster kids nationwide. That’s roughly 1 out of every 184 kids in foster care! That statistic should alarm all of us. AND 20,000 or more of those kids will age out of foster care this year. Of those, 50% will have no source of income and the other 50% will make around $7500 per year. That’s ridiculous and is NOT ok!

However, I am so encouraged by the questions and comments you have been asking! PLEASE keep them coming. I do not pretend to have all the answers because I certainly do not. Please don’t tell Seanie that. However, we can recommend some great resources that hopefully can point you in the right direction. Please visit my website (link in bio) and find sources on the Forever Family Friday page. There is a wealth of info that can help! If you still can’t find what you’re looking for DM me. DM our foundation. Email us. We want you to have the info you need to get the ball rolling!

Foster parents are in even greater demand than normal due to the pandemic. The numbers of kids entering the system are at all time highs. If you have even the smallest thought about adoption or foster care, I say PLEASE GO FOR IT! You will be far more rewarded than the effort you put out. And the effort is SO WORTH IT! The children are SO WORTH IT! You can be a difference maker!

Please let me introduce to you Saharra and Jayden from Oklahoma. THEY are SO WORTH IT! They are 13 and 14 years old and often called the terrific twosome. Saharra is a cheerleader and Jayden plays football and basketball. Both are best at math in school. However there are differences, Saharra likes to longboard and listen to music, Country and Hip Hop. Jayden likes to play video games and watch sports on TV. He prefers Rap and his favorite movie is “Avengers Endgame.” Saharra’s favorite movie is “High School Musical” and her favorite quote is “follow your dreams, they know the way”. Keep dreaming sweet girl! She wants to be a cosmetologist and travel. They are double the blessing to any family. Please contact Becky Hahn [email protected] (405)650-8947.
